Wonder

Vacation adrenaline still coursing through my veins, I tackle the mountains of laundry. It’s after dark, but still I hang the clean clothes on the backyard line. I stop when I see them: first two, then ten, then twenty. A private, magical fireworks show. Fireflies! I watch in wonder as they flit back and forth, mini signal towers. I didn’t need to go on vacation to experience the awe of nature. A simple change in my routine and I stumbled upon what I had been seeking elsewhere. At home. I close my newly opened eyes, tears streaming down my face.
