Disappeared

It’s 1966. She’s eighteen and one half. Six months out of high school. Graduated with high honors, but elected not to go to college because she’d already been successful. Congrats! First girl to get her man. Her best friend, Janet, wrote this on Linda’s picture in the yearbook. Now she’s face to face with him, standing at the altar. She’s said her vows of obedience and promises: “for richer or poorer” and “until death do us part.” The priest proclaims, “I now pronounce you man and wife.” They kiss. She’s Mrs. Dennis Nolan. And just like that, Linda is disappeared.
