We are piled like puppies on the giant blue pit couch, unwinding with a movie after an exhausting week of work and school. The music darkens and the plot builds. My youngest is the first to call it. “The mom is going to die.” The theme is so prevalent in the family entertainment genre that my girls call Friday “dead mother movie night.” We joke that I might be more useful to their futures as superheroes if I met my end in a dramatic twist. Our own mothers distant memories, Matt and I pull our girls closer under the blanket.
