Pronunciation

I’ve waited with you all three years of your life, as letters arranged on your tongue searching for order. Lellow, you’d say, when I'd ask what color is your shirt. An answer that catches within it an innocence that mimics your toddling. Yellow, you now say, when I ask what color is your shirt, then you pull it over your head and walk towards the kitchen unwavering. I follow in recognition that within this departure goes a version of you that soon won't fit in my arms; one that strolls towards independence with each new word that you pronounce correctly.
